I’m sure you’ve read about the ongoing strike between the WGA and the AMPTP which has shuttered Production for thousands of us in the film/television/commercial industry. Members of my Local (706) have put together this rad, community event to raise funds for those in the biz who need it most, and also 🤞🏻 hopefully 🤞🏻 bring a strong show of support for those of us who are hosting booths, with all kinds of different delights.
I’ll bring my rainbows with me, per usual.

Bundle Dyeing |
While beautiful in their own way, things of the eco-print nature aren’t really my aesthetic {which is surprising considering I have flowers tattooed up and down my left arm, floral wallpapered walls, and an ever growing garden full of them}. I love flowers. But as my latest attempt confirmed… just not exactly like this.
Cloth | cotton muslin swaddle
Flowers | fresh, frozen and dried bougainvillea, calendula, chamomile, marigold, purple sage, rose and sunflower. Some home grown, others salvaged from withering floral arrangements.
Mordant | Aluminum Triformate
Soaked in white vinegar before steaming.
While I loved working with all of the flowers, I was underwhelmed by the result. Yeah, I could’ve spiced up the variety of flowers to get a slightly more dynamic range of color— but I wasn’t that committed.
And maybe I could’ve left it at this ↓, and someone would’ve thought it was great, but I decided to put it through another process.
I added iron and soda ash to the equation (hoping for some rad blues, grays and pinks ) but pulled it from the bath after a few minutes, because I didn’t love what I was seeing.
Here’s the result (maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80’s, or maybe it’s just me) it’s giving me Gremlins vibes.
