Capturing Color |
Ice Dyeing with Fiber Reactive Dyes

4 hours | $450.00

  • Join me for a mini masterclass in color, celebrating: beauty, wonder, and connection as you learn the art and science of ice dyeing using fiber reactive pigments. Drawing from my personal experience and years of research, I’ll show you how to create and manipulate dynamic colors on fabric like no other. Each class will be one-of-a-kind, full of surprises, and tailored to your interests as it accelerates.

Experience the magic of the studio combined with my unique perspectives on: intuitive color selection, multitasking materials, fearless experimentation, skill refinement, and creative play.

Learn to create bespoke spectacles of color, while flourishing as an artist and a dyer— as well as encouraging your own unique creativity to run wild and be your guide.

    This workshop will include:

    • Basic safety and practical chemistry when working with synthetic dyes including: studio setup, useful terminology, and proper preparation/handling/disposal of dyestuffs and materials

    • Creative color theory and selection

    • Manipulating pigment in both powder and liquid forms

    • Hue adjustments and color combining

    • Experimenting with tools and modifiers to create unique patterning

    • Overdyeing and leaning in to the beauty of surprise

    • Troubleshooting

    • Time to play and create

    • How to finish and care for your masterpieces

We’ll take breaks as needed and wrap up with a social Q&A, reflecting on the pieces you’ve created.

    📣 This is not a tie-dye class, I repeat— not a tie-dye class 🙌

This is the class I would’ve dreamed of when I was a baby dyer just getting started. You will be fast-tracked with all the “need to know” info, as well as bonus information and expertise that comes from having hand dyed thousands of pieces.

    Materials included:

    • all necessary dyestuffs and equipment

    • assorted cut yardage for dyeing

    Optional offerings:

    • pre-prepared blanks including additional fabric yardage (priced a la carte)

    • additional studio time, including assistance, should you like to continue creating at the end of class: $25.00 per fifteen minute interval | $100.00 per hour

    Takeaways:

    • Everything you need to know to successfully begin (or continue) your own adventures in ice dyeing and working with fiber reactives to create successful permanent color bonds on cellulose and silk fibers

    • A fresh spin on creativity and color to create custom pieces that reflect your own magical aesthetic and personality

    • Your beautiful, hand dyed fabrics as well as any add-on items you select

    ✨ Important note ✨

It’s best practice to leave freshly dye items in place to cure for twenty-four hours before handling. You are welcome to:

    • Schedule a date and time to pick up your items at the studio:

    ‣ un-finished and bagged for transport

    ‣ finished (rinsed → washed →heat set → wrapped) for an additional $25.00

    • Have your pieces finished in studio and mailed to you. $35.00 to send to one address. $15.00 for each additional address

    • If you would like to take your pieces at the end of class, I’m happy to bag for transport— though it can greatly effect the outcome of your work

    Location:

    • My private studio in Encino, CA. Physical address and Studio Liability Waiver will be emailed upon booking.

Maximum number of attendees | 4

Floating Color |
An introduction to water marbling

2 hours | $250.00

  • With the full spectrum of the rainbow at your fingertips, you’ll learn to float color on watery surfaces, creating liquid drawings and patterns— which we will monoprint on to both paper and fabric.

We’ll begin with an introduction on the preparation of the materials, as well as a demonstration and discussion of the historical and contemporary techniques and tools we’ll use, followed by time to play and create. We’ll celebrate fluid flow, release of control (as a creative strategy), and the beauty of surprises as we rotate amongst stations arranged with varying tools, techniques, designs, and trays.

We’ll end our time with a social Q&A, connecting and reflecting on the pieces you’ve created, as well as provide you a full resource and instruction guide to keep.

Not only is marbling a delightful combination of chemistry, art, and motion, but it’s also incredibly soothing, mesmerizing, and joyful to do.

Join us for a celebration of color and craft. You’ll be in good company.

    All supplies included.

Simple Stitches |
sewing + embellishing
basics

2 hours | $150.00

  • Would you like to learn to sew, whether by hand or machine, or simply gain some fresh perspectives and techniques to try? If so, you’re in for a total treat! Join me for Simple Stitches.

I’ll take you through my contemporary techniques on this beloved (and handy dandy) heritage craft using a fun, un-fussy approach to stitching. ✨ no machine required ✨

During our time together we’ll focus on hand sewing + needlework including:

    • two ways to thread a needle using: thread, embroidery floss, and sashiko/quilting thread

    • knot tying: quilters knot and French knot

    • simple stitches: running stitch, backstitch, couching, and my signature “rainbow sprinkle moonfetti” stitch

    • working with multiple threaded needles at one time

    • fabric construction: fabric placement and seam allowances

    • mark making + linework transfer techniques using: pencil, pen, sharpie, tailors chalk, aobana ink, washable fabric pens, stencils, frisket paper, and household items (bowls, cups, plates, plants, and rocks)

    • adornments such as sequins and beads

    • time to sit and stitch

We’ll pull from my collection of assorted dyed and un-dyed remnants to practice stitching; though you’re welcome to bring something from home as well.

If you’d enjoy a sewing machine demo I’d be happy to show bobbin winding, threading, and basic machine mechanics.

Aside from being beautiful and useful for fiber and textile arts, I’m constantly putting sewing skills to task in daily life:

    • mending, up-cycling and altering wearables, and home goods.

    • creating handmade gifts and arts & crafts

    • repairing well loved toys and stuffies

    • creating floral hair accessories and arrangements

In a world where everything feels more expensive, yet not always built to last, it feels great to take repairs into your own hand— saving yourself some coins and being kinder to the earth. By mending a favorite item with a hole or snag that might otherwise doom it to the trash you could give it a long life, possibly turning it into a beloved heirloom, with the help of a few simple stitches.

All necessary tools will be provided for in-studio use.

Optional add-ons (custom pricing and available in-studio only):

    - build your own fabric remnant packs

    - needle and thread bundles

    - hand dyed fabric yardage

    - assorted dyed and un-dyed studio goods
