I kicked off the month with my favorite group of four and five year olds, this time teaching an intro to ice dyeing class. We experimented with: pattern options, color combining, working with pigment in liquid and powder form, and capturing the color draining from our colanders onto fabric remnants, which I turned into surprise zippy pouches for my little ar-teests.

Kids art is my jam. It’s just so magical and unpredictable and free. And I love sharing and teaching heritage crafts like dyeing, marbling and sewing to littles— techniques they might not have access or otherwise be exposed to. Watching, guiding and encouraging them through their own creative expressions and processes (while building their confidence, knowledge, skillset and mastery in the arts) is a total gift. I feel like these types of projects also lead to finished pieces that are equal parts design and surprise, and make for very delighted students.

I’m putting together one on one and group studio classes {for artists of all ages} as well as school and party pop-ups. In the meanwhile, if you’d like to take class or book an event with me, let me know what you’d love to learn here.

Another absolute delight was the 706 craft fair, where I popped up with mini paper marbling lessons, a sample rack full of one of a kind one offs and a huge selection of dyed and un-dyed fabrics for my fellow sewers.

It’s been a tough year for Hollywood— I’ve worked less than sixty hours on set.

This year, my dudes.

So when fellow artists from my guild asked thirty participants to help fundraise for the MPTF (tv and film crew health insurance) I was like absolutely.

We ran solely on word of mouth advertising, and had no clue what the turnout would be. Initially we were hoping for 150 people to show. And we knew that however many union members did attend {and did they ever} with no work to be found, many simply don’t have any extra to go around…

But holy moly, Los Angeles showed up for us— and our local showed up— and the news showed up— and they all donated, which felt amazing. I can’t tell you how many people outside of the industry purposefully came to donate and spend at as many booths as they possibly could, because for that day their mission was help and lift up fellow Angelenos. It was rad, and I still get a little teary thinking about it.

Here are some snaps I managed to take before and after, but almost none during, because I was too busy saying hello to all of the beautiful people that came.
